Schaefers Canal House & Marina

No stores of any kind nearby, although Steve offered to have staff give us a ride to a grocery store. We are docked from May1st to Oct31st on the transit floating docks. Our vessel is definately in good hands with Dockmaster Tom & Manager Steven Connell.

Wheelchair accessible entrance,

Those would be welcome additions that could lead to longer stays. Steven the Dock Master was amazing. He's very knowledgeable and even washed the water marks and filled our fenders when we got fuel.

Steve, the Dockmaster, went out of his way to make sure we had a great stay. We will definitely stop here again. Nice for a quick stop especially with the shoaling at the entrance to the Anchorage across the canal. Your guide to the people, places and activities of Delaware from its beaches and coastal towns to its bustling cities and historic sites. And the food—delivered hot and on time—was often delicious. Panko-breaded oysters,  plump and crispy, held strong onto their texture and briny pop, even under a sprinkling of wasabi aioli and toasted sesame cream.

LGBTQ+ friendly,

Passed out leaflets with all kind of info. And cracking jokes the whole time. We never encountered such a helpful friendly and funny dockside assistance Restaurant was very good along with the staff. And fun watching all the canal traffic.

Does Schaefer's Canal House have a kids menu?

Dual pumps made fueling easy and fast. Nice discount for large quantity of fuel. Great line handling from the dock hands. Moved tp the bulkhead for the overnight stay. The restaurant had a live band and the food was excellent. Very pleasant stay and great stop between Cape May and Annapolis.

Please note fuel dock is being renovating and will not be available until May. It’s a shame that food felt like such a harried afterthought, because there were good ideas amid the rubble. Homemade spinach gnocchi, hearty and flavorful in its warm bath of sun-dried tomato cream sauce, choked with starch and chewiness. Other inoffensive fare like crab dip and Waldorf salad were simply underseasoned. "We'll bring some of our most popular dishes to Chesapeake City, but we'll add some new seafood dishes," he said. Dockmaster and crew were excellent in meeting all our needs.

If looking for a quiet night of sleep it’s not the best. Very friendly and competent Dock Master, Steve, guided us right into fuel dock and then around to out spot on the bulkhead. Despite passing ships, there was very little rocking from wakes. Restaurant was good and steps from the boat. Restaurant is good and convenient.

Servers, afforded time to breathe, exuded ample charm. How else can one explain the Schaefer’s unforgivable Steam Pot? Gritty, sour middleneck clams, and puny, unappetizing mussels skulked among the bottom of a dry roasting pan along with one shriveled lobster tail. Any semblance of seasoning came from two halfhearted shakes of an Old Bay canister and a dish of clarified butter.

This is a good location to stop in preparation to head down the C&D canal, and Delaware River. I believe this is the only marina in Chesapeake City that has fuel. Since the main dockage is along a fixed dock it's fairly easy to pull up and the dockmaster is very helpful and friendly. I ate at the restaurant (nothing else around) the food is good. There aren't any showers, but I didn't find that to be an issue. We had a really good experience here.

While visiting, boaters will have access to great amenities including restrooms and a full provisioned Ships Store. Great stay at Schaefer's marina. Stopped at the fuel dock and took on 750 gallons of fuel.

Sirved does not guarantee prices or the availability of menu items. Steve and his team provide an excellent experience. The location is great and we got to see the swapping of pilots on a vehicle carrier ship right from our boat. Good spot for waiting on the current and getting a great meal at the restaurant. Dock hands were great and very helpful. Also a great walking and bike path if you're looking for a place to stretch your legs.

Strong currents can be expected. We really enjoyed the bar and restaurant. I would definitely stay there again.

The party raged—unless you were a party of two waiting to eat dinner. The young staff, as well as the kitchen, seemed overwhelmed and frazzled during the restaurant’s initial, hectic weeks. Waiters and runners zipped around frenetically, delivering food to the wrong tables, presenting appetizers before drinks had arrived, and leaving dirty dishes to pile up. Very helpful & professional, well versed in the challenges of their current.

Easy access to water hose and electric hookup. The only draw-back is that there are no showers. Even a cold water outside rinse off shower would have been nice. Nice folks running the docks (inc their staff). However not a marina - mainly dockage for restaurant & bar (which we found convenient). Therefore, no dock restrooms or showers (bathrooms at restaurant).
