They maintained an extensive art collection in the home, including original paintings by Cézanne, Renoir, Degas, and Diego Rivera. Many of these paintings were donated to the Detroit Institute of Arts after Eleanor’s death. Rivera’s Detroit Industry murals at the Detroit Institute of Arts were a gift of Edsel Ford. Greystone Mansion

The public is invited to visit the Eames House for a self-guided tour of the exterior during open hours. Admission is $10 and reservations are required to visit the grounds. Groups with 10 or more visitors must make an appointment and sign a group release form prior to visiting. Guided, one-hour personal tours of the interior are available for $275 (1-2 adults) and $450 (3-4 adults). Diehard fans can indulge in an Eames tradition, a picnic in the house meadow, for $750 (1-4 adults).

Thanks to a lecture series that was happening I was able to get visit this amazing home for free. Docents were placed throughout the home to offer insight but it was nice to get to walk around on our own. The biggest bummer is that you cannot take photography indoors. I was in awe of the living room and so badly wanted a picture. The first phase includes an initial $490,000 award to begin engineering and design work, with implementation expected between months after the engineering and design phase. It has been called the Taj Mahal of Tile and I absolutely love that the house features locally made tile! The house was built in 1929 as a vacation home for the Adamson family but eventually became their fulltime residence. You used to be able to tour the house but now the new owners only make it available to the public during special events.
